IABS 29th Annual Convention Cork 2018.
This is the third successive year that IABS (Irish Association of Barbershop Singers) held our Convention in the beautiful Cork City Hall. We greatly appreciate the support given by Cork City Council, Cork Convention Bureau, Cork Business Association and many traders in the city centre.
On behalf of IABS I wish to thank our visitors from abroad – UK, Sweden, Holland to name a few. We are delighted to welcome our two guest quartets for the weekend – SoundHouse, who are the current LABBS and European Champion Quartet and Portobello Road, one of the UK’s leading male Barbershop quartets.
In addition to that line-up, we are very excited to thank our special guests, The White Rosettes, the current LABBS Champions (for the 16th time) and the current European Champions, under the direction of the wonderful Sally McClean. Their presence at our Convention add a huge ‘buzz’ to the occasion.”
Those of you who joined us in Cork previously will be familiar with all that Cork City has to offer. Cork city is a warm and inviting city, very easy to walk around, with a great history and interest in music of all kinds. Cork is renowned for good food emporiums and pubs and of course we have the English market. Cork is also a home to the best artisan food producers in the country.
I wish to acknowledge the wonderful work of the Convention Team, under the direction of Liz Nolan, who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that this weekend goes without a hitch.
It is not all about the winning! We make amazing friends through this wonderful hobby of ours, so leave time to forge new friends and renew the old! The Afterglow (in the Clayton Hotel) was a great place to do that!
We look forward to seeing many of you again next year 2019 when we move to the INEC in Killarney, 4-6 October. Please don’t leave it too late to book www.inec.ie
